Kalamazoo, MI – Behind a 33-save effort by goaltender Connor Ingram in his Adirondack debut, the Thunder won their second straight game with a 4-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday evening at Wings Event Center.
After a scoreless first period, a crazy series of bounces led to the Thunder’s first goal 2:27 into the second period. With Adirondack on the man advantage, Tim Harrison’s shot from the left circle hit James Henry’s skate, then Desmond Bergin’s arm, followed by the crossbar and finally off of Wings’ netminder Joel Martin’s glove and into the net for the circus goal. Bergin’s goal was his third of the season with Henry and Harrison collecting the assists, Henry’s second in as many games.
Kalamazoo responded with a fortunate bounce of its own, however, as it knotted the game at one with exactly eight minutes remaining in the middle stanza. With the Wings on the man advantage, the puck was worked to Kyle Bushee at the left point, where he saw his shot denied by Adirondack netminder Connor Ingram, but the rebound hit an Adirondack skate and rolled into the net. Kyle Blaney and Aaron Irving collected the assists on the play, Irving's fifth of the season.
It took just 36 seconds for Adirondack to respond, however, as forward JC Campagna fired home his third goal of the season. After a Kalamazoo turnover, Pierre-Luc Mercier worked the puck to Campagna, who walked down the slot and put his wrist shot past Martin for the go-ahead goal. Mercier collected the lone assist on the play, his team-leading eighth of the season.
Adirondack opened up their largest lead of the evening with a pair of tallies midway through the third period. First, with Adirondack on the power play, forward Ty Loney redirected home a Dylan Olsen shot from the point for his team-leading seventh goal of the season at the 8:53 mark of the period. Less than three minutes later, forward Terrence Wallin rifled home a loose puck in the high slot for his second goal in as many games and his fifth of the season. Forward Paul Rodrigues collected the lone assist on Wallin’s goal, his third of the season.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow evening with a rematch in Kalamazoo, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m., before the Thunder travel to Brampton, ONT to conclude their weekend against the Beast on Sunday. The Thunder are next home on Saturday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m., which begins a seven-game homestand at Cool Insuring Arena.
