GLENS FALLS – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils and Utica Comets, have announced that the club has signed defenseman Steven MacLean to a standard player contract for the 2026-27 season.
MacLean, 28, played overseas this past season with the EIHL’s Cardiff Devils. In 15 games, the 6-foot-7, 200-pound defenseman had three points (2g, 1a) and 11 penalty minutes.
“Adding Steven to our blue line gives us an immediate boost in size, reach, and presence,” said Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier. “At 6’7”, he uses his frame extremely well to shut down plays and disrupt opposing rushes. He’s a smart, reliable defenseman who makes life difficult for opposing forwards, and our fans are going to love watching him lock down our defensive zone.”
Prior to going to Europe, MacLean played three seasons with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones and recorded 26 points (5g, 21a) and a plus-nine rating in 130 games. Before starting his professional career, the Scarborough, Ontario native played three seasons of U-Sports with Wilfrid Laurier University and had 15 points (3g, 12a) in 65 games.
