ADIRONDACK THUNDER & LOCAL SHERIFFS DONATE $9,543 TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder announced today that, in partnership with the Saratoga and Washington County Sheriffs’ offices, they have donated $9,543 to Special Olympics New York. The money was generated from the post-game jersey auction and from ticket sales to Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Night, in its first season for the Thunder, drew the fifth-largest crowd of the season as the Thunder defeated the Manchester Monarchs 6-4. The Thunder wore special, Law Enforcement Appreciation themed jerseys, sponsored by the Saratoga and Washington County sheriffs’ offices. After the game, the jerseys were auctioned off on the ice with all proceeds benefitting Special Olympics New York. Special Olympics’ athletes accompanied the Thunder players on the ice as they auctioned off their jerseys.

"Law Enforcement Appreciation Night was a terrific addition to our schedule as we were able to further integrate our team with a great organization in Special Olympics New York,” Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek said. “We’d like to thank Sheriff Zurlo and Sheriff Murphy, along with both the Saratoga and Washington County Sheriffs organizations, for sponsoring the night and allowing us to express our appreciation for the service that our law enforcement officers provide each day.”

Special Olympics is an international organization that changes lives by promoting understanding, acceptance and inclusion between people with and without intellectual disabilities. Today, Special Olympics New York (SONY) is the largest program in the United States and the nearly the largest program in the world. SONY is hosting its 2017 Summer Olympics on June 17-18 at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. For more information or to register online, please visit the website at www.specialolympics-ny.org/summer-games/ or email volunteer@nyso.org.

"We are so grateful for both our community and law enforcement partners,” Special Olympics New York Director of Development Jennifer Frame said. “It is with their help that we are able to offer more life changing experiences to individuals with intellectual disabilities"

The Thunder will hit the ice again in October as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league. Season tickets are on sale now at $13 per ticket. Call 518-480-3355 x1 or visit ECHLThunder.com for more information.
