THE WOLFE OF GLEN STREET GIVES THUNDER OVERTIME WIN OVER ELMIRA

Elmira, NY - The Adirondack Thunder earned an overtime victory in Elmira thanks to Greg Wolfe’s game-winning goal with less than five second to play in overtime on Thursday evening at First Arena.

The Thunder opened the scoring just past the midway point of the opening period as Dennis Kravchenko found the back of the net for his sixth tally of the season. Forward Gunnar Hughes worked the puck free along the boards and fed Patch Alber at the right-hand point, where the Clifton Park native fired a shot towards the net that was redirected home in front by Kravchenko. Alber and Hughes picked up the assists on the play, the tenth point of the season for Alber.

Less than four minutes later, the Thunder struck again as they capitalized on a breakaway opportunity to double their advantage at the 15 minute mark of the first period. Positioned in his own end, forward Greg Wolfe head-manned a pass to forward Alex Fedoseyev, who skated in alone and beat Elmira netminder Andy Iles on the forehand for his third goal of the season. Wolfe picked up the lone assist on the play, his helper of the season.

With just 68 seconds to play in the first, Adirondack scored for the third time in the opening period to open up a 3-0 advantage. Wolfe fed a streaking Kravchenko down the left wing, who rounded the Elmira defense and slotted his pass to Hughes in front, where the St. Lawrence graduate scored on his second attempt for his third goal of the season. Kravchenko and Wolfe had the assists on the play, the second point of the evening for both players.

Elmira got on the board just 41 seconds later as they beat Adirondack netminder Mason McDonald for the first time on the evening. After Sebastien Sylvestre won an offensive zone faceoff, Tyson Fawcett collected the puck and skated around the net, where he fed Greg Betzold in front and the winger converted for his fifth tally of the season. Fawcett and Sylvestre picked up the assists on the play for the Jackals, the ninth of the season for Sylvestre.

The Jackals were able to force the game to overtime with two goals in the second half of the third period. Elmira scored first at the 10:03 mark of the third as Kyle Rankin redirected home a point shot from Guy LeBeouf for his fourth tally of the season. LaBeouf and Mark Bennet had the helpers on the play, Bennett’s second of the season. The hosts then capitalized on the man advantage with 2:15 left in regulation as Greg Amalong scored his first career ECHL goal to knot the score at three. Amalong took a feed from Betzold and fired a one-timer by McDonald from the point for the game-tying goal.

After overtime, which included an Adirondack power play, seemingly came and went, the Thunder won the game with less than five seconds to play in the extra session as Wolfe scored the game winning goal. After Kravchenko fired high of the net, the puck ricocheted off of the glass to in front of Iles, where Wolfe slammed home the bouncing puck for his fifth tally of the season. Kravchenko and Alber picked up the helpers on Wolfe’s third point of the evening.

The Thunder return home to the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday, December 31 to take on the Reading Royals in a 5:30 p.m. puck drop.
