GLENS FALLS – Jordan Klimek, Tristan Ashbrook and Jeremy Hanzel scored, and Jeremy Brodeur made 30 saves as the Adirondack Thunder defeated the Worcester Railers, 3-2, on Friday night in front of over 4,500 fans at Harding Mazzotti Arena.
After no scoring in the first period, the Thunder opened the scoring as Tanner Edwards had a great effort down the right side of the ice. Edwards stopped and found Jordan Klimek trailing the play, and Klimek fired a wrist shot through traffic and over the left shoulder of goaltender Parker Gahagen for the lead. The goal was Klimek’s first of the season with assists from Edwards and Jarrett Lee at the 7:09 mark.
Tristan Ashbrook gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded breakaway after a great pass from Patrick Grasso. Ashbrook beat Parker Gahagen with a wrister at the hash marks for his third goal of the year just 1:36 later with Grasso collecting the lone helper. The Thunder took a 2-0 lead into the third period.
Adirondack added to the lead in the third period on the power play as Jeremy Hanzel fired a one timer by the glove of Parker Gahagen at 9:38 of the third. Shane Harper and Tristan Ashbrook were given the assists for a 3-0 lead on Hanzel’s second of the season.
Worcester came back to pull within one goal late in regulation. Stevie Moses sent a one timer by goaltender Jeremy Brodeur from the left circle with 1:35 left in the third period. The goal was Moses’ first from Michael Suda and Matt DeMelis and the Thunder lead decreased to 3-1.
The Railers scored less than one minute later to make it a one-goal game. Matt DeMelis scored from the right circle for his third of the season with assists from Sam Strange and Stevie Moses with 44 seconds remaining and the Thunder lead was 3-2.
With the net empty for the Railers, the Thunder held on for the 3-2 victory.
