The Albany Devils announced today that they have assigned defenseman Joe Faust to the Adirondack Thunder. The Devils also announced today that they have released defenseman David Shields from his PTO. Shields, who signed with the Thunder this offseason, will also report to Adirondack.
Faust, 23, made his professional debut lastt season with the Albany Devils, as he appeared in 26 games as a rookie. The Bloomington, MN native collected four points (1-3-4) over his 26 games, including his first career AHL goal on April 10 against Binghamton. Faust was originally selected 114th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and skated four seasons of collegiatea hockey at the University of Wisconsin from 2010-2014.
Shields, 24, joins the Thunder with four seasons and over 200 games of AHL experience under his belt with the Peoria Rivermen and Chicago Wolves. Shields spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Wolves, where he collected 21 points (5-16-21) over 97 games played. Shields scored his first career AHL goal on October 13, 2013 against San Antonio and made his AHL postseason debut later that season on May 10, 2014 in the Wolves’ Western Conference semi-final tilt against the Toronto Marlies. Shields began his AHL career with the Peoria Rivermen from 2011-2013, where he played 107 games and collected nine points (0-9-9).
