Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced that they have acquired defenseman Mike Bergin from the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL for future considerations.
Bergin, 27, spent the 2014-15 season with Elmira, his first in the ECHL, where he collected 15 points (3-12-15) over 54 games played. The Ottawa, ONT native made his ECHL debut on November 14, 2014 against Evansville and recorded his first career point, an assist, on December 9 in Orlando. The 2008 7th round draft pick of the Dallas Stars netted his first career goal as part of a multi-point effort on January 9 against Brampton.
Prior to joining Elmira, Bergin spent two seasons playing professionally in Sweden with Sodertalje SK of the Swedish First Division. In 95 career games, the 6'1” defenseman collected 14 points (4-10-14) and 140 penalty minutes, in addition to a +9 cumulative rating over his two seasons.
Bergin played his collegiate hockey at nearby RPI in Troy, NY, where he skated four seasons on the blueline for the Engineers. Bergin skated in 107 games with RPI, including a career high 39 during his senior season in 2011-12, where he was the Engineers’ captain. Bergin posted a career best 18 points (2-16-18) during his junior season in 2010-11 as he helped to lead RPI to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995.
