TROIS-RIVIERES – Ryan Smith scored with 1:45 left in regulation as the Adirondack Thunder came back to defeat the Trois-Rivieres Lions, 3-2, on the road Tuesday night inside Videotron Coliseum.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead 11:55 into the game after several chances at the other end of the ice by the Thunder. Anthony Beauregard took a pass from Santino Centorame and beat Isaac Poulter to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Centorame and Ryan Francis were given assists on Beauregard’s 12th of the year and the Thunder trailed 1-0 to start the second period.
Nicolas Lariviere gave the Lions a 2-0 lead on a wrap-around goal just 3:57 into the second period. The goal was his sixth of the year with the lone assist from Jonathan Joannette.
Adirondack answered back later in the second period on a tip-in goal by Colin Long. Xavier Parent sent a shot to the net that Long tipped up and over the shoulder of goaltender Phillippe Desrosiers. The goal was Long’s third of the year with assists from Parent and Jeff Taylor at 12:12. The Thunder trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Ryan Smith tied the game on a tip in front of the net in the third period. Nick Rivera sent a low shot on the net that Smith tipped by Desrosiers for his second of the season. The goal was assisted by Rivera and Jeff Taylor and came 2:53 into the third.
Smith scored the game-winning goal with just 1:45 left in regulation as he beat Desrosiers on a partial breakaway for his second of the night and third of the year. Brandon Schultz collected the lone assist on Smith’s third of the year. Adirondack held on late for the 3-2 win.
Poulter denied 33 of 35 shots in the win.
