GLENS FALLS, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced this afternoon that goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos has been released from his PTO with the American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds. Additionally, goalie Eric Schierhorn has been released from his ECHL contract.
Sakellaropoulos, 24, returns to the Thunder from his third AHL call-up of the season. After previous stints with the Utica Comets and Binghamton Devils, Sakellaropoulos made his AHL debut with Springfield, going 0-0-2 in two games with a 2.90 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.
For the Thunder, the Tinley Park, IL native has seen action in 31 games while building a 19-5-3-1 record. His 19 wins (3rd), 2.38 GAA (4th), and .919 save percentage (3rd) all rank in the top-5 among ECHL rookie goaltenders with at least 10 games played.
Adirondack finishes its regular season with a three-in-three set this weekend beginning with Fan Appreciation Night at Cool Insuring Arena against the Reading Royals tomorrow evening. After that matchup, both sides will return to Pennsylvania for a Saturday night rematch before the Thunder return home to host the Worcester Railers to cap the ECHL regular season.
