ADIRONDACK SWEEPS WEEKEND SERIES WITH 3-1 WIN OVER READING

READING, PA – Alex Sakellaropoulos made 38 saves in his first game action in over two weeks, the Thunder used goals from three different scorers and Adirondack won 3-1 Saturday night in Reading to take both games of the home-and-home set.

Jakob Reichert got the Thunder on the board with his first professional goal at the 10:40 mark of the opening period. With Adirondack on the power play, Desmond Bergin attempted a shot from the inside faceoff circle but couldn’t get much on it. The puck trickled to Reichert who backhanded it between his legs and by Angus Redmond for a 1-0 Thunder lead.

Alex Krushelnyski tied the game just under four minutes later when he wristed a loose puck by Sakellaropoulos. The Thunder goalie couldn’t get eyes on the puck and didn’t see the shot coming from Krushelynski, who notched his fourth goal of the season.

John Edwardh would get the Thunder back on top with just two seconds remaining in the initial frame. The UMass-Lowell product collected the puck on the right side of the Royals cage, took it behind the net and found his fourth tally of the year with a wraparound goal.

After a scoreless second, Dennis Kravchenko added an insurance goal for Adirondack early on in the final period. After a net-front scramble, the puck skirted out to Kravchenko in the left faceoff circle where he fired a shot by a sprawling Redmond for the Thunder’s second power-play tally of the night.

Sakellaropoulos was peppered in net all night for Adirondack, but he saw no problems as he recorded a Thunder season-high 38 saves.

Adirondack returns to action Wednesday morning in Manchester for a special 10:00 a.m. Education Day game against the Monarchs. The Thunder will head to Worcester right after for a Thursday night tilt against the Railers. For the latest Thunder news, be sure to follow the team on Facebook and Twitter (@ECHLThunder).
