Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that forward Ryan Schmelzer has signed an AHL contract with the Binghamton Devils for the 2018-2019 season.
Schmelzer, 24, joined the Thunder late last season after a four-year NCAA career at Canisius College that saw him produce 106 points (40-66-106) in 143 games as a Golden Griffin. His production only increased after signing a professional deal in Adirondack, skating at a point-per-game pace for the rest of the regular season with seven points (2-5-7) from seven games played.
Schmelzer went on to help lead Adirondack to the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Schmelzer netted 17 points (9-8-17) in 17 playoff games, en route to becoming Adirondack’s all-time leading scorer in a single postseason. His nine goals scored in the Kelly Cup Playoffs is also an all-time Thunder franchise record.
