THUNDER DERAIL WORCESTER IN 3-2 VICTORY

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder took the first of three meetings this week against Worcester as they skated to a 3-2 victory over the Worcester Railers on Wednesday evening at Cool Insuring Arena.

The Thunder were led by two-point efforts from Conor Riley and Andrew Radjenovic, as well as the game-winning goal from forward Terrence Wallin early in the third period. Drew Fielding was victorious for the second straight game as he made 29 save to earn his fourth victory of the season.

After a scoreless first period that saw the Thunder post an 18-9 shots on goal advantage, Adirondack opened the scoring just past the midway point of the second via Riley’s first goal of the season. Radjenovic, stationed along the goal line in the left-hand corner, hit a streaking Riley in the high slot where he fired a wrist shot past Worcester netminder Eamon McAdam for his first goal of the season. Radjenovic collected the lone assist on the play, his first as a member of the Thunder.

The Railers would respond just over a minute later, however, with a goal of their own at the 12:10 mark of the second period. Forward Matthew Gaudreau rushed down the left wing before he fired a shot from the bottom of the circle, which was denied by Fielding, but forward Kellen Jones buried the rebound for fifth goal of the season. Gaudreau and Worcester captain Chris Langkow picked up the helpers on the play, fifth helper of the season for Gaudreau.

Following three minutes of back-and-forth action, the Thunder retook the lead on Eric Neiley’s eighth tally of the season just past the 15-minute mark of the middle stanza. James Henry’s pass from the trapezoid found Neiley at the top of the crease, where he then beat McAdam through the five-hole for his eighth goal of the season. Neiley’s goal was assisted by Henry and defenseman Vytal Cote, the first career ECHL point for Cote.

Adirondack’s second lead of the night lasted just 90 seconds courtesy of Railers’ forward TJ Syner, who scored his third goal of the season just over three minutes from the second intermission. After defenseman Justin Hamonic fired a shot from the point that was blocked, Syner picked up the rebound and beat Fielding for his team’s second goal of the evening. Hamonic and forward Barry Almeida collected the assists on the play, the tenth of the season for Almeida.

The hosts took the lead for good just past the five minute mark of the third period as Wallin extended his scoring streak to five games with the game-winning goal. Radjenovic skated the puck down the left wing before he delivered a saucer pass to Wallin in front, who snapped a wrist shot past McAdam on the glove side for his seventh goal of the season. Radjenovic picked up his second primary assist of the night on the play with Riley picked up the other helper.

The Thunder and Railers are back in action on Friday at Cool Insuring Arena and Saturday at the DCU Center in Worcester, the first ever meeting between the teams in Massachusetts. Tickets are available for all December home game by calling 518-480-3355 x1.
