Reading, PA - The Adirondack Thunder dropped their preseason finale, 3-1 to the Reading Royals on Sunday afternoon at Santander Arena.
The Thunder received a goal from defenseman Desmond Bergin and 23 saves from goaltender Nick Riopel but concluded the preseason with an 0-2 record after a pair of defeats to Reading.
After the Royals opened up a 2-0 lead with goals on either side of the first intermission, Bergin found the back of the net for the first time in a Thunder jersey at the 16:24 mark of the second period. Defenseman Kevin Lough and forward JC Campagna collected the assists on the play, the second point in as many preseason games for both players. The Thunder goal was scored on the man advantage, the third power-play goal the team scored during the 2017 preseason.
After a tightly contested third period, Reading put the game away with a late goal less than three minutes from the end of the game, off the stick of forward Matt Wilkins.
The Thunder will hit the ice again on October 14 for Opening Night as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league, against the Brampton Beast. Get $15 tickets that include a hot dog and a soda for that game by visiting echlthunder.com/openingnight.
