Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that defenseman Mike Bergin has been named as team captain for the 2017-18 season. The Thunder have also announced that forwards James Henry and Brian Ward have been named as alternate captains for the 2017-18 season.
Bergin, 29, becomes the third captain in Adirondack Thunder history, following Peter MacArthur (2016 – 2017) and Rob Bordson (2015). Bergin has skated with the Thunder since the team’s inception in 2015, serving as an alternate captain during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. The 6-3 defenseman has appeared in 82 regular-season games in his Thunder career, in addition to 12 postseason games during the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Henry, 26, is entering his third season with the Thunder and has served as an alternate captain during each of his first two seasons. The 5-8 forward is the longest tenured member of the Thunder organization, having been with the team since 2013, when the team was named the Stockton Thunder. Ward, 25, is entering his second season with the Thunder after he led the team with 27 goals as a season ago. Ward is entering his first season as an alternate captain and previously served as a captain of his college team at St. Lawrence University during the 2015-16 season.
The Thunder will hit the ice tonight for Opening Night as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league, against the Brampton Beast. Tickets are still available today to help welcome back Adirondack Thunder hockey.
