Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today that they have signed defenseman Mike Bergin to a standard player contract.
Bergin, 28, returns to the Thunder for his second season with the team, his third in the ECHL. The blueliner appeared in 55 games a season ago with the Thunder and collected eight points (3-5-8), along with a +12 rating, which finished the season second among all Adirondack defenseman, behind only David Shields. The Ottawa, ONT native also skated in all 12 playoff games with the Thunder, where he collected six penalty minutes. Bergin was originally acquired by the Thunder last offseason in a trade with the Elmira Jackals.
Prior to joining Adirondack, Bergin skated three professional seasons, including the 2014-15 season in Elmira. The RPI graduate collected 15 points (3-12-15) in his lone season with the Jackals. Bergin also played two seasons overseas in Sweden with Sodertalje of the Swedish Allsvenskan, where he netted 14 points (4-10-14) over 95 total games of play. Preceding his professional career, the 6-3 defenseman played four seasons in the Capital District with the RPI Engineers, where he helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament in 2011, their first appearance since 1995.
