Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder returned home to the Glens Falls Civic Center for the first time in the month of March only to see their three-game winning streak snap at the hands of the Elmira Jackals by a 2-0 final score.
Elmira opened the scoring just over halfway through the first period on Mark Bennett’s ninth goal of the season. The Jackals capitalized on a two-on-one chance where Matt Garbowsky sent a pass across the slot and all Bennett had to do was put his stick down and direct the puck into the back of the net past Adirondack netminder Drew Fielding. Bennett’s goal marked the seventh assist on the year for Barkowsky in his 21st game with the Jackals.
The visitors increased their lead to two with seven minutes remaining in the game when Zach Cohen took a pass at the point from Cason Hohmann and blasted a slapshot top shelf for his eleventh goal of the season. Cohen’s tally marked the 30th assist on the year for Hohmann, while Allan McPherson, who picked up the secondary helper on the play, earned his 23rd.
With the loss, the Thunder fall to 34-19-2-4 on the season and drop to fifth place in the conference with 14 games remaining in the regular season. The team wraps up their home and home set with the Jackals tomorrow evening in Elmira before their next “home” game this Sunday at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid against the Reading Royals. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and tickets are available by visiting tickets.com or the Herb Brooks Arena Box Office.
