Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today their protected list of players for the 2015-16 season.
A player being named to a protected list gives the Adirondack Thunder exclusive rights until July 1 to negotiate a new contract or offer the player a qualifying offer.
ECHL protected lists consist of players that signed a SPC (standard player contract) in 2014-15 with the member club, in Adirondack’s case the Stockton Thunder, who was not traded or released. Other players eligible to be included on the protected list include players who had received a qualifying offer from Stockton last summer for the 2014-15 season that did not sign a SPC but were not traded or released, players who were suspended by the league or member club but were not traded or released, players that signed a SPC on or after the first day of the 2014-15 Regular Season and subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract and players who have executed the ECHL Retirement Form but were not traded or released. Protected lists may exceed 20 players.
The ECHL also announced that teams must complete all Future Consideration trades by 3 p.m. ET on June 13 and that teams must submit their 2014-15 Season-Ending Roster by 3 p.m. ET on June 15. Season ending rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2014-15. Any player on the season ending roster who has not signed a SPC or does not receive a Qualifying offer shall be deemed an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The Adirondack Thunder’s protected list for the 2015-16 season, which consists of 26 players, is as follows:
Goaltenders (x2): Lucas Gore, Cody Reichard
Defensemen (x8): Brad Stebner, Kyle Brodie, Mike Busillo, Ryan Constant, Zach Josepher, Mario Larocque, John Ryder, Brad Stebner, Colin Shea.
Forwards (x16): J.T. Barnett, Matt Bergland, Jean-Philip Chabot, Andrew Clark, James Henry, Garet Hunt, Garrett Ladd, Roberts Lipsbergs, Jack MacLellan, Joey Martin, Tyler Maxwell, Carter Rigby, Vincent Scarsella, Tyler Shattock, Mike Ullrich, Klarc Wilson.
The Thunder’s protected list is highlighted by the Stockton Thunder’s five leading scorers from a season ago, including leading scorer Tyler Shattock (65GP-23G-40A-63P) and Vincent Scarsella (33-9-22-30), who was acquired midseason from the Utah Grizzlies. Four players on the protected list, Cody Reichard, Matt Bergland, Andrew Clark and Garet Hunt were members of the 2012-13 Stockton Thunder Western Conference Champions team that ended their season as Kelly Cup runners up. Hunt is also the Stockton Thunder’s franchise leader in games played (441) and points (159).
The Thunder’s protected list brings 447 games of American Hockey League experience, led by Tyler Shattock’s 258, spent predominantly with the Peoria Rivermen. Defenseman Mario Larocque, a first round pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, also brings along five games of NHL experience with the Lightning.
The Thunder’s announcement today of its protected list of players represents the initial steps towards the selection of the 2015-16 roster, which will take place in early October, at the end of training camp, prior to the opening of the regular season.
