ADIRONDACK THUNDER ANNOUNCE PHASE 2 OF NAME THE MASCOT CONTEST

VOTE HERE

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today the five finalists from the “Name The Mascot” contest, which will determine the name of the new Thunder mascot, which will be released this summer. The winner of the contest, chosen at random from those who selected the correct name, will win an Adirondack Thunder team signed stick, four center ice seats to the Thunder’s Opening Night on October 24 against the Manchester Monarchs and the opportunity to participate in the unveiling ceremony.

Over 200 votes were submitted by Thunder fans. From dozens of unique submissions, the Thunder have selected the five finalists, which will once again be voted on by the fans. The name “Thor” was not selected due to the fact it has been the name of the mascot of the Stockton Thunder. The five finalists are:

Tahawus

Rumble

Bolt

Hinon

Gunnar

The nominations all have a tie to either the Adirondacks, the Thunder name or Norse mythology. Tahawus, a common nickname for Mount Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks, is translated to “cloud splitter” in English. Hinon is the Iroquois God of Thunder. Rumble and Bolt both play off of the Thunder name and Gunnar stands for a brave and bold warrior.

The new online poll will begin today, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, where fans can vote on their favorite name. The online voting process will run for two weeks and will end on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. The name of the new mascot will be announced by the team after the conclusion of the voting process.

“We were thrilled to see the nominations pour in for our new mascot," Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek said. “Our fans certainly got their creative juices going and came up with dozens of interesting options. We feel we have five quality nominations that our entire fan base will be challenged by when selecting their favorite."

Full season, partial season, flex and group ticket plans are now available to renew or purchase for the Adirondack Thunder’s inaugural 2015-16 season. The benefits of being a Thunder season ticket holder include a savings of 27 to 42 percent off of box office pricing. All full season, 22 game and 12 game Thunder season ticket holders are entitled to unlimited unused ticket exchange, playoff ticket priority and the ability to buy tickets all season long at the discounted season ticket price.
