ADIRONDACK FLAMES ANNOUNCE 2014-15 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE
Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Flames announced today their American Hockey League regular season schedule for the 2014-15 season, presented by Bud Light. The Flames will open their inaugural season on the road, when they face off against the Rochester Americans on October 10th at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY.
Opening Night at the Glens Falls Civic Center will take place on Saturday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m., when the Albany Devils travel up the Northway to play their non-conference rivals. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a coin, good for great discounts throughout the season, both at the Glens Falls Civic Center and throughout the greater Glens Falls community. The Flames will also give away a magnetic schedule to the first 2,500 fans in attendance, sponsored by Great Meadow Federal Credit Union. Additionally, Special Olympics New York will be in attendance for a parade of athletes.
The Flames will play 40 total games against their four North Divisional foes, including the Utica Comets and Rochester Americans, a total of 12 times each (6 home/6 road). The Flames will take on the North Division’s Canadian teams, the Toronto Marlies and Hamilton Bulldogs, eight times each (4/4). Adirondack will face Lake Erie, Rockford, Oklahoma City, and San Antonio four times (2/2). The Flames will play every other team in the Western Conference twice (1/1) with the exception of Charlotte, who the Flames will not see this year. The remainder of the Flames schedule will consist of crossover games (5/5) with four of the AHL’s Eastern Conference teams. The Civic Center will play host to 17 of the 29 other AHL clubs this season.
Adirondack’s heaviest workload will be the month of December when they will play 14 games including five at home. Below is a table which highlights the Flames month by month home and away meetings.
MONTH | GAMES | HOME | AWAY |
OCTOBER | 9 | 5 | 4 |
NOVEMBER | 12 | 6 | 6 |
DECEMBER | 14 | 5 | 9 |
JANUARY | 9 | 7 | 2 |
FEBRUARY | 9 | 5 | 4 |
MARCH | 13 | 6 | 7 |
APRIL | 10 | 4 | 6 |
Unlike years past, the Civic Center’s new tenant will be a part of the AHL’s Western Conference creating different matchups that have not been seen before. Nine never before seen opponents will skate into Glens Falls this season, including teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Michigan.
“Overall we’re quite pleased with how the schedule came together,” Adirondack Flames President Brian Petrovek said. “Recognizing the conference alignment and crossover games. We’re especially excited for our fans who will see teams and future stars never seen here before. At the same time, nearby rivals Utica, Rochester, Albany, and Syracuse will keep everyone ‘fired up’ all season long.”
Key matchups for fans to mark on their calendars include the return of a very familiar team, the new Lehigh Valley Phantoms, who will face-off against the Flames Oct. 18. The Phantoms relocated to Allentown, PA after five years in Glens Falls. Another date to watch for will be April 1, which will see defending Calder Champion Texas Stars, led by 2013-14 MVP Travis Morin, clash with the Flames. Dependent on call ups, an exciting matchup for fans on March 18 and 21 could see the past two Hobey Baker winners face off as 2013 Hobey Baker Award winner Drew LeBlanc and the Rockford IceHogs visit 2014 Hobey winner Johnny Gaudreau of the Flames.
All AHL teams will play 76 total games, split into 38 home games and 38 road contests. The Flames season will be highlighted by 17 Saturday night games at the Civic Center for “Hockey Night in Glens Falls, presented by Bud Light.” These 17 games will be complimented by five Friday and three Sunday (5:00 p.m. start time) matchups. Fans will also be able to see their Flames on select weekdays with five games on Tuesdays, seven on Wednesdays and one on Thursday. All home games will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of New Year’s Eve (5:30 p.m.) and the three game Sunday series.
Flames fans will get the most action during two long home-stands at the Civic Center. The first will feature five games beginning New Year’s Eve vs Toronto running through January 9 against Oklahoma City. The second spans six games and will run from January 24 through February 10, showcasing four games against divisional opponents.
The Flames complete promotional schedule will be announced on September 15.
Regional Radio Group will carry each of the Flames’ 76 home and away games during the 2014-15 season live over the air on HITS 95.9 FM (WCQL) and Talk 1450 AM (WWSC), as well as streamed through the station’s web platform. Games can also be viewed online through AHL Live, a subscription based service offered by the American Hockey League.
