TRENTON - Christophe Tellier tied the game in the third and won the game in overtime as the Adirondack Thunder came back to defeat the Trenton Ironhawks in overtime, 3-2, on Saturday night at CURE Insurance Arena.
After no scoring in the first period, Trenton took the lead as a Thunder penalty expired. As Conner Hutchison was exiting the penalty box, Jesse Nurmi got the puck and fired a wrist shot by goaltender Seth Eisele for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Nurmi’s second of the year and came at 7:47 of the middle frame.
Adirondack responded less than two minutes later as Patrick Grasso and Christophe Tellier connected in the offensive zone. Tellier took a pass from Grasso, waited, and returned the puck for a one timer that beat goaltender Ryan Fanti on the left side. The goal was Grasso’s second of the year at 9:25 to even the game 1-1.
Later in the second, after a Jacob Graves shot block, Jesse Nurmi picked up the loose puck and scored his second of the period to give the Ironhawks their second lead of the game. The goal was Nurmi’s third of the season with Ryan Bottrill collecting the lone assist at 15:44 and Adirondack trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes.
The Thunder tied the game 6:04 into the third period as Christophe Tellier scored his first goal on a loose puck on the side of the crease. Tellier’s game-tying goal was assisted by Jordan Klimek and Matt Salhany and eventually forced overtime in a 2-2 game.
In overtime, Jeremy Hanzel broke up a two-on-one rush and Shane Harper sent a long pass to Christophe Tellier to start an odd-man rush for the Thunder back the other way. Tellier took the puck down the right side, cut to the net, and beat Ryan Fanti for the game-winning goal and a 3-2 win at 3:50 of the extra time.
Seth Eisele picked up his second win of the year, stopping 16 of 18 shots.
