GLENS FALLS, NY – The ECHL announced today that a plan is in place for a split start to the 2020-21 season. The plan entails 13 teams starting on December 11th, 12 teams, including the Adirondack Thunder, starting on January 15th, and one team voluntarily suspending play for the entirety of the year. Below is a statement from Team President Jeff Mead:
"As many of you know, the Thunder need fans in the stands at Cool Insuring Arena in order for the business model to work and our state government has yet to address our specific situation. On our end, there is a safety plan being prepared that will be in compliance with any guidelines the state will have so that we can bring Thunder hockey back to our great community. With that being said, we have decided to prepare to start our season on January 15th. We know our coaches Alex Loh and Pete Dineen have been working all summer and continue to work on improving our team to build a fun, exciting, and competitive group that our community can rally around and cheer on as we strive to win the Kelly Cup. We appreciate the patience of our great fans during these unprecedented times and we look forward to seeing you in January."
The Thunder will play 62 games and a schedule will be released at a later date.
