GLENS FALLS, NY – The No. 15 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team ended the night at a stalemate with No. 4 Ohio State University, ending with a score of 2-2.The sold out Slater Family Ice Arena received five minutes of free hockey in the overtime period, but neither team could put one through for the victory. Max Johnson was able to carry over his success from Friday (Oct. 26) night's matchup, landing an assist in this game. Lukas Craggs and Connor Ford were able to slap goals for Bowling Green, leading them to the tie.The Falcons end the weekend with a win and a tie against the Buckeyes. Bowling Green will return to home ice next weekend when they host the Wildcats of Northern Michigan for a two game home series. The game on Friday (Nov. 2) will start at 7:37pm and the game on Saturday (Nov. 3) will begin at 7:07pm.

Scoring Plays

  • Ohio State found the back of the net for the first goal of the evening, coming at 13:15 from Carson Meyer with the assist from Freddy Gerard.
  • At 1:17 into the third period, Lukas Craggs stole the puck away and scored the first goal of the night for the Falcons on a breakaway. He was unassisted on the score.
  • Bowling Green took advantage of a power play at 15:10 into in the third period when Connor Ford slipped the puck past the Tommy Nappier. The assists were credited to Max Johnson and Brandon Kruse, the team leaders in the category.
  • The Buckeyes immediately answered back almost two minutes later with a goal from Freddy Gerard. He was assisted by Mason Jobst and Carson Meyer.

Other Key Plays

  • Both teams came out of the gates with a physical brand of hockey. Despite the aggression, each team only saw one player sent to the penalty box during the first period.
  • Bowling Green fell behind early in the Shots On Goal column 7-0, but continued to improve and chip away all night. They finished leading that category 30-25.
  • The Falcons did not score until the third period, but their two goals in the period forced the team's first overtime contest of the year.

 Falcon Stat Facts

  • Lukas Craggs and Connor Ford both registered their fourth goals on the young season for the Falcons.
  • Ford's power play goal was the Falcons 13th time capitalizing on a power play opportunity so far this season. Max Johnson did it twice against Ohio State in their first matchup this season.
  • Brandon Kruse tallied another assist, giving him a team high of nine on the season.
  • Ryan Bednard stopped 23 of Ohio State's shots, a new season high for him in Slater Family Ice Arena

Bowling Green will continue their home stand next weekend when they host Northern Michigan to open their WCHA play for the year. The game on Friday (Nov. 2) will start at 7:37pm and the game on Saturday (Nov. 3) will begin at 7:07pm. In the two preseason polls, Bowling Green and Northern Michigan were picked to finish back-to-back in second and third.
