ESTERO, FL – John Edwardh scored the game’s first goal but that’s all Adirondack could muster in a 3-1 loss to the Florida Everblades on Wednesday night at Hertz Arena.
The Thunder got on the board at 12:10 of the opening period when Edwardh extended his point-streak to seven games with his 16th score of the season. James Henry collected a loose puck at the blue line and hesitated to draw the defenseman his way on the delayed 2-on-1. After the Everblades skater committed to Henry, the Thunder captain sauced a pass to Edwardh that he backhanded by Jeremy Helvig for a 1-0 lead.
Florida collected the game’s final trio of tallies that started with Blake Winiecki’s 12th of the year in the second. The puck jumped off the boards on the original Florida shot but Winiecki picked it up to the left of Cormier, curled in front of the net and put it home on the opposite side to tie the game.
Tommy Thompson gave Florida its first lead when he knocked home a rebound shot off a great possession play from Patrick McCarron. The Everblades defenseman carried the puck around the entirety of the offensive zone and attempted to stuff home a wraparound attempt. Cormier made the initial save but Thompson knocked home the loose puck.
Steven Lorentz gave the game its 3-1 final with the lone goal in the third period. Brendan Miller blasted a slap-shot from the top of the left faceoff circle and Lorentz got a stick on it for a redirection goal, his ninth of the year in his first game back from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.
The two sides will square off twice more this week on Friday and Saturday evenings at Hertz Arena. For the latest Thunder news, follow the team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @EHCLThunder.
