Glens Falls, NY – The National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils announced their 2018 Training Camp roster Thursday morning. Six players with Thunder ties will be participating in camp which starts practice on Friday morning.
Goaltenders MacKenzie Blackwood and Colton Phinney, defensemen Joshua Jacobs and Colton White and forwards Brandon Baddock and Ryan Schmelzer will all be partaking in the NHL camp.
Five of those players – Blackwood, Jacobs, White, Baddock and Schmelzer – are on AHL contracts for the 2018-2019 season with the Binghamton Devils. The recently signed Colton Phinney is the lone player on a Thunder contract for the upcoming year.
Blackwood, White and Schmelzer were all a part of the Thunder’s 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs run. Schmelzer, coming in late last year from Canisius College, finished the postseason with 17 points (9g-8a) in 17 games, the most points recorded in a single playoff run for a Thunder skater. White ended the playoffs with 11 points (3g-8a) from 14 games, topping all Adirondack blueliners.
The 21-year old Blackwood led all ECHL goalies in postseason play with a 1.00 GAA and a .964 save percentage in his five games played.
The Devils’ training camp roster consists of 54 players – seven goalies, 19 defensemen and 28 forwards.
