Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that it has acquired defenseman Matias Cleland from the Maine Mariners in exchange for forward Terrence Wallin.
Cleland, 24, joins the Thunder after skating his 2017-2018 rookie season with the Orlando Solar Bears and Reading Royals. The 5-foot-11 defenseman appeared in a combined 67 games between the two teams, finishing with 17 points (2g-15a), 38 penalty minutes and a +13 rating. Cleland also has ECHL postseason experience as he saw action in all four of the Royals’ Kelly Cup Playoffs games.
Before turning pro, the Longmont, CO native played four seasons of college hockey at the University of New Hampshire. Cleland skated in 157 games over the course of his collegiate career while being named captain prior to his senior campaign. Cleland accumulated 86 points (14g-72a) during his Wildcats career while leading all blueliners in scoring during his final three seasons.
Wallin played in parts of three seasons for the Thunder, finishing with a combined 72 points (31g-41a) from 112 games played between regular season and postseason action.
