Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, announced this evening that Pete Dineen has been named Associate Coach for the upcoming season.
Dineen, 57, has extensive experience in the hockey industry after being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He played professionally for 11 seasons throughout the AHL, IHL and NHL, highlighted by a Calder Cup championship as a member of the Adirondack Red Wings in 1989.
“We are excited to announce Pete as Associate Coach and part of our Hockey Operations staff,” Thunder Governor Ed Moore said. “Coach Dineen has a widespread knowledge of the game from many different facets and we believe he will be an asset in helping to mentor and develop the players that we bring in. Having played, and now living in the Adirondack region, Pete’s familiarity with the team and the area made this an easy choice and we are happy to have him on board.”
Prior to taking the coaching gig, Dineen worked as a professional scout for 25 years with the Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets. As a scout, Dineen’s duties included scouting AHL and NHL games, writing reports on scouted players, covering training camps and attending tournaments across the world.
“I am extremely excited to be joining Coach Loh and the Thunder on the bench for the upcoming season,” Dineen said. “I know firsthand what a storied hockey town Glens Falls is and I can’t wait to be a part of that excellent tradition. After my many years in the industry, coaching has always been a possible next step for me, and my family and I are thrilled it gets to start here with the Thunder.”
The Ottawa, Ontario native was also in charge of the International Hockey League’s Houston Aeros expansion team for three seasons from 1994-1996. Dineen was responsible for assembling the expansion franchise, making roster decisions including free agents and trades and putting together a full coaching staff.
Pete is married to his wife, Brandy, and they have one daughter, Bailee. The Dineen family resides in Glen Lake, NY.
