THUNDER DOWN EVERBLADES BY 4-2 FINAL

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder opened a three-game set this week against the Florida Everblades with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday evening at Cool Insuring Arena.

Forward Terrence Wallin scored twice and added an assist as Drew Fielding made 35 saves to earn his team-leading tenth victory of the season. Forwards Paul Rodrigues and Brian Ward also found the back of the net for Adirondack, which earned a point for the fifth time in seven games on home ice.

The visitors opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game as forward Steven Lorentz scored his seventh goal of the season. After Adirondack turned the puck over in its own zone, forward Joe Cox fed Lorentz in front, where he went to his backhand and beat Fielding on the glove side for the game’s first goal. Cox collected the lone assist on the play for Florida, his 16th of the season.

Just over two minutes later, Adirondack knotted the score at one as Wallin scored in his first game back from the AHL. Stationed below the goal line in the corner, forward Brian Ward fed a pass to Wallin at the top of the right-hand circle, where he one-timed his shot past Florida goaltender Martin Ouelette for the goal. Ward and defenseman Desmond Bergin collected the assists on the play, the tenth of the season for Ward.

After more than ten minutes of scoreless hockey, Florida closed out the first period with a shorthanded goal from former Thunder center Mitchell Heard, his 14th tally of the season. Cox fed Heard with a stretch pass behind the Adirondack defense and Heard went forehand-to-backhand and over the glove of Fielding for the goal. Cox collected his second assist of the evening with the lone helper on the play.

Adirondack responded with a pair of second-period goals to take its first lead of the evening. First, 3:56 into the middle stanza, Rodrigues crashed the net and buried a Mathieu Brodeur rebound for his seventh goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, Wallin scored his second goal of the evening to put the Thunder ahead 3-2. After forward James Henry won a race down the left wing, he fed a trailing Wallin in the slot, where he buried his shot five hole to put the hosts ahead. Henry and forward Andrew Radjenovic collected the assists on the play, Henry’s 23rd of the season.

The Thunder added an insurance tally just shy of the halfway mark of the third period as Ward scored his 11th goal of the season for his third point of the evening. After he nearly completed his hat trick with a goal, Wallin collected the loose puck and fed Ward at the back post for a tap-in goal that put Adirondack ahead by a pair. Wallin and Bergin collected the assists on the play, Bergin’s second of the evening.
