THUNDER DREW ONE BETTER IN 3-0 SHUTOUT WIN

Reading, PA – The Adirondack Thunder rode a 29-save shutout from goaltender Drew Fielding to a 3-0 victory over the Reading Royals in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,869 fans on Sunday evening at Cool Insuring Arena.

Goaltender Drew Fielding posted the fifth shutout of his professional career, his first of the 2017-18 season, as he stopped all 29 shots he faced in the win. Shane Conacher, Mathieu Brodeur and James Henry scored for the Thunder, who moved into second place in the North Division with the win.

The Thunder opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game as Conacher collected his fifth tally of the season. Conacher and forward Troy Bourke executed a give-and-go in the offensive zone which commenced with Conacher beating Reading netminder Mark Dekanich for the game’s first goal. Bourke and defenseman Mathieu Brodeur collected the assists on the play as Bourke extended his scoring streak to four games.

Adirondack doubled its advantage midway through the second period as Brodeur scored his first goal of the season at the 6:22 mark of the middle stanza. Forward Pierre-Luc Mercier won the puck deep in the offensive zone and fed Brodeur at the right-hand point, where he sent a shot through traffic that beat Dekanich to put the Thunder ahead by two. Mercier collected the lone assist on the play, his 17th of the season.

The hosts pushed their lead to three goals at the 6:49 mark of the third period as Henry scored a power-play goal, his tenth tally of the season. Stationed in the corner, Bourke fed Henry in the left-hand circle, where he one-timed his shot over Dekanich’s right shoulder for the insurance tally. Bourke and defenseman Desmond Bergin collected the assists on the play, Bourke’s second point of the evening.

The Thunder are back in action next week for three games, beginning on Wednesday evening at Cool Insuring Arena against the Manchester Monarchs. Puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for all Thunder home games by visiting ECHLThunder.com or calling 518-480-3355 x1.
