Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that they have signed defenseman Ryan Segalla to a standard player contract. In a separate transaction, the Thunder have also traded defenseman Nick Trecapelli to the Fuel for future considerations.
Segalla, 22, joins the Thunder with 63 games of professional hockey experience after he spent last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Segalla amassed 11 points (3-8-11) in his 62 games with Wheeling and earned an AHL call up in March 2017, as he made his AHL debut with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on March 25. Prior to joining the Thunder, Segalla skated in training camp this season with the Reading Royals, where he appeared in one preseason contest against Adirondack.
Before he began his professional career, the 6-1 blueliner skated three seasons at the University of Connecticut, where he collected 21 points (3-18-21) from 86 games played. Segalla was originally a fourth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2013, when he was selected 119th overall.
The Thunder are back in action this Friday as they host the Manchester Monarchs at Cool Insuring Arena, with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for this and all regular season contests by calling 518-480-3355 or visiting ECHLThunder.com.
