Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that they have signed defenseman Desmond Bergin to a standard player contract. The Thunder acquired Bergin's rights from Quad City in a trade on Friday.
Bergin, 24, appeared in 60 games with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits during the 2016-17 regular season and amassed 26 points (7-19-26). The 5-11 blueliner also collected an assist in five Kelly Cup Playoff contests with the Swamp Rabbits in 2017. Bergin was originally acquired by Quad City from Greenville in exchange for forward Jack Nevins on August 14, 2017.
Prior to beginning his professional career in 2016, Bergin played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Harvard University. The Natick, MA native appeared in 117 career games with the Crimson, where he totaled 28 points (4-24-28), including a career-high 10 as a senior in the 2015-16 season. Bergin helped lead Harvard to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016 and picked up an assist in 2015 against Nebraska-Omaha.
The Thunder will hit the ice again in October as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league. Season tickets are on sale now at $13 per ticket. Call 518-480-3355 x1 or visit ECHLThunder.com for more information.
