THUNDER SIGN DEFENSEMAN MATHIEU BRODEUR

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that they have signed defenseman Mathieu Brodeur to a standard player contract.

Brodeur, 27, returns for his third season with the Thunder, his eighth overall as a professional. Brodeur appeared in 15 games with the team a season ago and collected 19 points (4-15-19) before he earned an American Hockey League contract with the Syracuse Crunch in November. Brodeur collected 13 points (3-10-13) in 56 regular season contests with Syracuse and also appeared in all 22 of the team’s Calder Cup playoff games as the Crunch finished as Eastern Conference Champions. Brodeur picked up four (1-3-4) playoff points, including the game-winning goal in Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals against Grand Rapids.

The 6-6 blueliner has amassed 49 points (13-36-49) in 85 games with Thunder, including a team-leading 30 (9-21-30) among defensemen in the 2015-16 season. The Montreal, PQ native has appeared in 440 games throughout his professional career and reached the 300-game plateau at the AHL level in April 2017 from stints with San Antonio, Portland, Chicago, Albany and Syracuse throughout his AHL career. Brodeur has collected 66 points (15-51-66) in the AHL to go along with 217 penalty minutes and a +8 rating. The defenseman was originally a third round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2008, when he was selected 76th overall.

The Thunder will hit the ice again in October as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league. Season tickets are on sale now at $13 per ticket. Call 518-480-3355 x1 or visit ECHLThunder.com for more information.
