THUNDER GIVE ADMIRALS A PINK SLIP FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder made it five straight victories as they took down the Norfolk Admirals 4-3 on Saturday evening in front of a loud crowd at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Adirondack opened the scoring for the second night in a row against the Admirals at the 7:29 mark of the opening period. Thunder forward Ty Loney capitalized on a misplayed puck deep in the Norfolk zone, carried it to the net and finished with a nifty move around the goaltender's skate for the goal. The goal, Loney's second in as many nights, was unassisted and his 18th goal of the season.

5:12 into the second period, the Admirals evened the score with a goal from Brodie Dupont, his 13th marker of the season. After the Admirals led a two-on-one rush into the offensive zone, Joey Benik passed to Dupont, who’s initial shot was denied by Adirondack goaltender Drew Fielding. The puck was airborne and Dupont swatted the puck into the back of the net. Benik and Frankie Simonelli notched assists on the play, Simonelli’s 10th of the season.

The Thunder regained their lead as forward Brett Pollock scored his 11th goal of the season to put his team ahead 2-1. Pollock skated in alone on Norfolk netminder Philipe Desrosiers, held off a backchecking defender and beat the goaltender on the blocker side for the tally. Roman Dyukov and James Henry collected assists on the play, the tenth helper of the season for Dyukov.

On the man advantage, the Thunder extended their lead over the Admirals to two goals as Henry found the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season. Peter MacArthur found Loney waiting on the goal line for the pass and Loney’s initial shot was denied, but Henry crashed the net and tapped the puck in for the goal. Loney and MacArthur tallied assists on the play, the 22nd of the year for both wingers.

With just 12 seconds left in the period, the Admirals forced a turnover in the neutral zone while shorthanded. Dupont collected and then dished the puck to Simonelli as he entered the zone, who rushed the net and finished with a wrist shot just by of Fielding’s blocker to cut his team's deficit to a single goal. Brodie was awarded the lone assist on the goal, his second point of the game.

Just past the midway point of the final period of regulation, the Admirals evened the score for the second time in the game with a goal from Ben Murphy, his 10th of the season. Norfolk forward Paul Rodrigues attempted a shot on goal that went wide and bounced to Murphy, who sent a shot to the far side of the net past Fielding. Rodrigues and Gabriel Verpaelst notched assists on the goal, Rodrigues’ 14th of the season.

With the hosts on the power play with just 75 seconds left in the game, Pollock scored the game-winning goal, his second goal of the night. Adirondack forward Greg Wolfe managed to intercept a pass and poke the puck to Pollock, who buried his wrist shot into the far side of the net. Wolfe and Stepan Falkovsky collected the helpers on the goal, with the assist extending Falkovsky’s point streak to five games.

With the win, Adirondack has now won seven of its past eight games as the Thunder improve to 24-13-4-3 on the season and remain in third place in the Northern Division.

The Thunder are back in action on Tuesday evening as they host the South Carolina Stingrays in a rematch of last season’s Kelly Cup Playoff series.
