Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today that Patch Alber and Mathieu Brodeur have been released from their try out agreements with the Albany Devils and have been added to the Thunder’s Opening Night roster.
Alber, 27, returns to the Thunder for his second season with Adirondack and his fourth overall in the ECHL after he joined the team in October in a trade from the Missouri Mavericks. Alber tied for the lead amongst Thunder defenseman in scoring during the 2015-16 season, as he netted 30 points (0-30-30) over 64 games played. Alber’s 30 points were a career high while his 30 assists were second on the Thunder roster, trailing only forward Michael Kirkpatrick (31). The Clifton Park, NY native appeared in all 12 playoff contests for the Thunder and collected three assists, including the primary helper on Gunnar Hughes’ overtime game winning goal in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals against South Carolina.
Brodeur, 26, also returns for his second season with the Thunder, his seventh l as a professional. Brodeur led all Thunder defenseman with nine goals during the 201-16 regular season and finished tied with Alber for the team lead in scoring amongst blueliners with 30 points (9-21-30) over 70 games played. The 6-6 blueliner also appeared in all 12 postseason contests with the Thunder and collected three points (2-1-3), with his two goals leading all Adirondack defensemen. Brodeur’s goals both came on the man advantage, tying him for the team lead in power-play goals.
