Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today that they have signed forward Ty Loney to a standard player contract.
Loney, 24, joins the Thunder for his second professional season after he spent the 2015-16 season in the Penguins organization, split between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL and Wheeling in the ECHL. With the Penguins, Loney collected six points (0-6-6) in 31 games played. The Valencia, PA native also skated in 28 regular season games with the Nailers, where he amassed 18 points (7-11-18). Loney also skated in each of Wheeling’s 26 playoff contests and collected 18 points (7-11-18) on route to an appearance in the 2016 Kelly Cup Finals. Loney’s seven postseason tallies tied for third on the Wheeling roster and included goals in series clinching wins over Florida and South Carolina.
The 6-4 winger made his professional debut at the end of the 2014-15 season with the then AHL Norfolk Admirals, where he netted four points (2-2-4) in five games played. Loney collected three points in his professional debut on April 7, including his first career professional goal, the game winner, in a 7-4 win over Binghamton. Prior to turning professional, Loney played four seasons at the University of Denver, where he finished his career with 89 points (39-50-89) over 152 games played and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in each season.
