Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, partnered with the American Red Cross to collect over 200 pints of blood during the August “7 Days of Hope” Blood Drive, which has the potential to support 624 patients in the area. Each donor received a complimentary flex ticket to an Adirondack Thunder home game during the 2016-17 season.
The 7 Days of Hope Blood Drive was held at seven different locations in Glens Falls and Queensbury, including Glens Falls Hospital and the Queensbury Hotel. The Thunder had their mascot, Gunnar, in attendance for the final drive on Sunday, August 7, at the Glens Falls YMCA, to help promote the event. The Thunder gave out tickets to each donor, resulting in over 200 tickets donated, a $2,600 value.
“7 Days of Hope was successful and I can't wait to do it again,” Jill Ballou of the American Red Cross said. “The summer is an extremely hard time to collect blood with schools and colleges out of session and we struggle to collect what the hospitals need. The community surprises me each year, there are so many dedicated donors and I'm so happy to be a part of this event.”
The American Red Cross Adirondack Saratoga Chapter is dedicated to helping save lives and helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies with 520 dedicated volunteers serving a population of 362,174 people. In the last year, the American Red Cross Adirondack Saratoga Chapter has collected over 80,000 pints of blood for use at hospitals in the region.
The Thunder are less 100 days away from opening night, as they kick off their 2016-17 home schedule on Saturday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. against the Manchester Monarchs. Ticket packages are available now for the 2016-17 season at just $13 per seat, a savings of 34% compared to 2015-16 pricing.
