Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder fell for the third straight game on home ice as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Kalamazoo Wings on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, which included eight saves from Adirondack netminder Mavric Parks, Kalamazoo got the scoring started nearly eight minutes into the second period. After a back and forth display for much of the contest, the Wings created a chance off the rush, finished by forward Ludwig Blomstrand at back post for the goal. After Cory Pritz’s original shot from the point was turned aside by Parks, Blomstrand knocked the rebound home for his 23rd goal of the season, a team high.
The Wings then doubled their advantage with just 2:25 to play in the second period as Adam Phillips fired home a blast from the point to make it a 2-0 game. Directly off of an offensive zone faceoff win for Curtis Valk, defenseman Evan McEneny hit Phillips in the wheelhouse and he fired past Parks for his ninth goal of the season. The helpers on the play went to McEneny and Valk, the 20th assist in 27 games this season for McEneny.
Chasing a two-goal lead, Adirondack fired 16 shots on Wings’ netminder Joel Martin in the third period but were unable to replicate their magic from November 7 in Kalamazoo, when the Thunder overturned a 2-0 deficit in the final 63 seconds, on route to a 3-2 overtime victory. With the defeat, Adirondack falls to 35-24-6 with seven games remaining as they continue their push towards the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Adirondack continues on its six game homestand on Saturday as they host the Division leading Manchester Monarchs. The Thunder will then prepare for a three-in-three set the following weekend, as they host Norfolk on Friday evening and Brampton on Saturday and Sunday.
