THUNDER SHUTOUT 3-0 BY MONARCHS

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder were unable to solve Manchester and former Adirondack Flames netminder Doug Carr as they suffered a 3-0 shutout on Saturday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Carr made 30 saves, including 17 in the third period for his first shutout of the season and the third of his professional career.

The Monarchs opened the scoring at the 7:30 mark of the first period as they capitalized on an Adirondack turnover in their own end to make it a 1-0 game. Marc Anthoine intercepted an errant pass in the slot and put a wrist shot past Thunder netminder Drew Fielding on the blocker side for the goal. Anthoine’s tally, which came unassisted, was his tenth goal of the season and his third point in six games against Adirondack.

Manchester doubled its advantage with a power-play goal 4:13 into the second period. The Monarchs moved the puck in the offensive zone on the latter half of their man advantage and finally capitalized as Matt Fornataro redirected home an Alex Roach feed to push his team’s lead to two goals. The tally was the seventh goal of the season for Fornataro, while Roach picked up his 21st helper with the lone assist on the play.

The Monarchs added an empty net goal from Kevin Morris with 1:22 to play to seal the deal. Forwards Troy Power and Steven Hodges picked up the helpers on the play.

Adirondack continues on its six game homestand next weekend as they prepare for a three-in-three The Thunder host Norfolk on Friday evening and Brampton on Saturday and Sunday as they look to secure a position in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
