THUNDER TO HONOR FIVE TOP LOCAL EDUCATORS TONIGHT

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder will honor five of the area’s top educators at Friday’s Teacher’s Appreciation Night as the Thunder take on the Wheeling Nailers. Over 350 teachers are expected to be in attendance at the Civic Center tonight as a part of the Teacher's Appreciation promotion, which offered free tickets to all local teachers.

The five teachers, Matt Armenio, Betsy Clugstone, Juliana Ogden, Courtney Barber and Katherine Canale, will be recognized during the first intermission of tonight's game. Each of the five teachers, coming from five different local school districts, will be presented with a customized, team-signed Thunder stick by Thunder President Brian Petrovek. The five teachers were selected through nominations sent to the Thunder front office.

Mr. Matt Armenio is in his 14th year of teaching second grade at Moreau Elementary in South Glens Falls. Matt likes to engage his class by using humor and energy to get them excited about the subject matter. Matt coordinates activities outside the classroom for his class as well as the school so that the students can share memorable experiences beyond learning the curriculum.

Ms. Betsy Clugstone is an Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Math Teacher at Hudson Falls Middle School. Betsy helps run homework club and is always happy to tutor students after school. Betsy understands the importance of hands on learning in math and is always looking for ways to make the material fun and fresh for her students. Every week, Betsy posts a Math problem for the entire school to answer and rewards students who answer correctly.

Ms. Juliana Moscatello Ogden is in her 18th year teaching seventh and eighth grade Social Studies at Glens Falls Middle School. Juliana was selected as a 2015 member of The Post Star’s “20 Under 40” Award, which honors people younger than 40 who have demonstrated success and dedication to their careers and who are role models in their trades or communities. Juliana is also the Modified Girls Soccer Coach and is a student government adviser.

Ms. Courtney Barber teaches eighth grade science at Greenwich Jr. / Sr. High School. Courtney is a dedicated individual who always works to get the best out of her students. Courtney institutes a weekly class questions sheet to reinforce new material, which helps guide the students to do their best work by keeping them focused on the material that is being covered.

Mrs. Katherine Canale teaches seventh grade social studies at Lake George Jr./Sr. High School. Katherine’s hard work is seen beyond the classroom. Katherine plans field trips to local historic sites for her students so they can learn from a different point of view, which also provides a hands-on aspect of learning for students. Katherine is also the Student Council Advisor for students from seventh through twelfth grade.
