Glens Falls NY - The Adirondack Thunder avenged last night’s loss to the Reading Royals with a 3-1 win in the second half of the back-to-back set on Sunday afternoon at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack was led by a three-point performance from Greg Wolfe (1-2-3) in his second game back after he missed the previous nine games due to injury.
The Thunder opened the scoring three minutes into the first period when Mathieu Brodeur found the back of the net for the fifth time this year. After a scrum along the boards, Michael Kirkpatrick collected the puck and sent a pass towards the slot to the incoming Brodeur, who fired through the five hole of Reading netminder Connor Knapp. The goal marked the 23rd assist on the season for Kirkpatrick, which extended his scoring streak to five games. Wolfe picked up the secondary assist on the play, his fourteenth of the season.
Adirondack increased its lead at the 8:47 mark of the first period as they opened up a two-goal lead. Jeff Silengo took a pass from Wolfe in the slot and fired a wrist shot over Knapp’s blocker for his 11th goal of the season. Wolfe’s 15th helper gave him his first multi-point game since January 29th, which also came against Reading. Patch Alber also collected an assist, which tied him with Michael Kirkpatrick for the team lead at 22 and extended his assist streak to four games.
The Royals finally got on the board just over two minutes into the third period to cut the Adirondack lead to 2-1. After he forced a turnover in the offensive zone, Pavel Padakin sent a pass to the slot to Ian Watters, who fired on net and got a rebound to trickle out to the stick of Joey Sides, who poked the puck past Adirondack goalie Drew Fielding for his eighth goal of the year. Padakin and Watters earned their ninth and eleventh assists on the season respectively.
The Thunder pushed the lead back up to two with 11:40 remaining in the game. Wolfe positioned himself along the blue line where he received a pass from Jeff Silengo. The Michigan State graduate stepped up and blasted a low shot past Knapp for his tenth goal this season. Silengo collected his eleventh assist on the year the lone helper on the play.
Adirondack returns to the ice on Thursday night for the first of a four-game road trip with back-to-back games in Norfolk against the Admirals, before they complete their three-in-three set on Saturday in South Carolina. The trip concludes in Manchester before the Thunder return to the Civic Center on March 10th to take on the Elmira Jackals.
