THUNDER NARROWLY DROP 3-2 DECISION TO READING

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder dropped a tense 3-2 decision to the Reading Royals on the second half of a back-to-back set at the Civic Center, the first win this season for the Royals in Glens Falls.

After they were shutout against Adirondack last night, the Royals opened the scoring three minutes into the first period with Robbie Czarnik's 18th goal of the season. Czarnik took a cross ice pass from Jesper Pettersson, skated into the offensive zone and fired a wrist shot from the left faceoff dot into the upper portion of the net. Winger Justin Crandall also had an assist on the play, his 32nd of the season, while Pettersson’s helper was his fourth with the Royals.

Adirondack tied the game a little over five minutes into the second period with a goal by Michael Kirkpatrick, scored with the Thunder on the man advantage. Immediately after a Reading goal was disallowed for too-many men on the ice, Adirondack capitalized as Kirkpatrick fired a wrist shot by Ouellette from the left hand circle for his sixteenth goal of the season. James Henry and Patch Alber collected the helpers on the play, the sixth point in seven games for Henry.

The Royals took their second lead of the night as Mike Pereira scored a power-play goal just over five minutes into the third to give the visitors the lead. Cam Reid found Pereira in the corner, where the Reading forward cut across the crease and beat Simpson for his fourteenth goal of the season. Reid's assist gives him nineteen on the year, while Mike Marcou also added to his assist total with the secondary assist, his eighth of the season.

The Thunder would again tie the game at two at the 7:49 mark of the third period. James Henry collected his second point of the evening as he buried the rebound off of a point shot from Jeff Silengo to knot the score at two. Silengo and Kirkpatrick collected the assists on the play, the 17th of the season form Kirkpatrick.

Just as it appeared the game was destined for overtime, Reading found the game winner with just a minute and five seconds on the clock. Pereira scored the game winner on his second goal of the night after the Royals forced a turnover on the boards deep in Adirondack territory. Pereira gained control of the puck, skated into the slot and fired just underneath the glove of Simpson for his 15th goal of the season.

The Thunder are off for the next three days for their All-Star break and return to game action this weekend, as they host the Norfolk Admirals on Friday and Saturday evening.
