Manchester, NH –The Adirondack Thunder dropped their second straight contest to the Manchester Monarchs, this by a 2-1 final on Saturday evening at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.
Adirondack got the scoring started with a goal off of the fast break midway through the first period. After Louick Marcotte exited the penalty box, he joined Greg Wolfe and Peter MacArthur on a 3-on-2 rush into the attacking zone. MacArthur’s bid was denied by Manchester netminder Colin Stevens but the puck trickled into the slot where Marcotte slammed it into the gaping net for his eighth goal of the season. MacArthur and Wolfe collected the helpers on the play, the eighth point over the past seven games for MacArthur.
The Monarchs knotted the score at one with less than four minutes to play in the second period. Monarchs winger Joey Diamond skated the puck down the left wing, dragged it into a quality shooting position and snapped his shot over Adirondack netminder Ken Appleby’s glove for his seventh tally of the season. Alex Roach and Colin Stevens collected the assists on the play, the 15th of the season for Roach and the first professional point for the goaltender Stevens.
Manchester took the lead with 9:55 to play in the game as Gasper Kopitar buried a rebound to give the Monarchs a 2-1 advantage. Forward Derek Angeli carried the puck down the right flank and into the offensive zone, where he had his shot turned aside by Appleby, but Kopitar was on hand to pounce on the rebound for his sixth goal of the season. Angeli’s assist was his fifth of the season, while Danick Paquette collected the secondary helper on the play, his third straight game with a point.
The Thunder are back in action tomorrow afternoon, as they complete their three-in-three set in Manchester. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m. The team then returns to the Civic Center for a pair of home games next weekend with the Reading Royals on Friday and Saturday evening, with both games slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
