Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, through the generosity of their fans and the work and dedication of the Thunder Wives and Girlfriends, donated over $1,000 to the Open Door Mission through the sales of two puck wreaths at December home games. The Thunder have also announced that the Thunder Wives and Girlfriends will be selling “Mystery Pucks” at the next three home games, with all proceeds to be donated to the C.R. Wood Cancer Research Center at Glens Falls Hospital.
The Thunder Wives and girlfriends created two “puck wreaths”, which were made up of 30 pucks, each signed by Thunder player, arranged in the shape of a holiday wreath with glue and hockey tape. The wreaths were raffled off on Friday, December 4 and Friday, December 11, and the two auctions raised a total of $1,001, all of which is being donated to the Open Door Mission in Glens Falls.
“We felt the Open Door Mission was a great partner of the team and we were thrilled to be able to donate over $1,000 from our puck wreath auctions in December,” Kayla MacAskill, fiancé of Thunder defenseman Patch Alber, said. “The puck wreaths seemed to be a big hit with Thunder fans and the money raised helps support a really important charity.”
The Thunder wives are currently selling “mystery pucks” at Thunder home games in the main lobby. 130 pucks were sold at the Thunder’s home game on Friday, January 22, raising a total of $1,300. Pucks will be available at this weekend’s home games on Friday January 29 and Saturday, January 30, as well as next Friday, February 5, as supplies last.
“The mystery pucks have already been a great follow up to the puck wreaths in December and give us another chance to give back to the local community,” Laura Wolfe, wife of Thunder forward Greg Wolfe, said. “The C.R. Wood Cancer Research Center is a great local organization and we’re excited to help add to the team’s donations from Pink in the Rink Night a couple weeks ago.”
