THUNDER SHUTOUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2-0 DEFEAT

Manchester, NH - The Adirondack Thunder were unable to find the back of the net in the second game of a back-to-back series with the Manchester Monarchs, as they fell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Monarchs got the scoring started in this one as an Alex Roach shot from the left wing beat Adirondack netminder Ken Appleby to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. Forward Austin Block won a neutral zone faceoff back to defenseman Josh Brown, who went across the ice to Roach. As he skated down the left wing, Roach entered the attacking zone and fired a wrist shot past Appleby for his third tally of the season.

Manchester doubled its advantage just 67 seconds into the second period, as Maxim Kitsyn buried a clever feed from Gasper Kopitar to make it 2-0. After a tenacious forecheck turned the puck over deep in Adirondack’s defensive zone, Kopitar set up behind the net and hit Kitsyn in front, where the Russian winger one-timed the puck past Appleby and collected his eighth goal of the season.

The loss drops the Thunder to three points behind the Monarchs in the East Division with six games in hand. Adirondack is back in action twice this week at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Tuesday and Thursday, including the annual New Year’s Eve game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., presented by Nemer Ford.
