Glens Falls, NY – Despite outshooting their opponents 34-21, the Adirondack Thunder dropped a 3-1 decision to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Thunder got the scoring started just over halfway through the first period with a power play goal off a blast from the point by Ryan Constant. Constant’s second goal of the season was set up by Patch Alber, who took a Michael Kirkpatrick pass and sent the puck along the blue line to Constant, who one-timed the puck into the back of the net. Alber and Kirkpatrick collected their fourth and fourteenth assists respectively.
The Swamp Rabbits answered shortly after, with just under six minutes in the first period. Greenville capitalized on their 5-on-3 power play when Richard Nejezchleb found Darian Dziurzynski through the Adirondack defense, where Dziurzynski was able to tap the puck past Thunder netminder Drew Fielding to tie the game at one. It was the fifth goal on the season for Dziurzynski, while Nejezchleb collected his ninth assist.
Greenville took the lead just over six minutes into the third period when Jordan Knackstedt skated into the offensive zone and sent a pass towards the net intended for Nejezchleb, who deflected the puck over Fielding’s pads into the back of the net. It was Nejezchleb’s fourth goal of the season and his first multi-point effort of the year. Knackstedt’s helper was his twelfth this season, while Troy Donnay, who had the secondary assist, knotched his fifth.
The Swamp Rabbits iced the game with four seconds left to play on Bretton Cameron’s empty net goal.
The loss keeps the Thunder tied with the Elmira Jackals for second in the East Division with three games in hand.
