Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today that they have signed forward Stephen Buco.
Buco, 25, joins the Thunder for his first full professional season, after he made his ECHL debut in March with the Elmira Jackals. Buco was scoreless in his only appearance with Elmira and also played in five contests with the SPHL’s Louisiana IceGators. Buco turned professional following his collegiate career, which saw him skate at UMass-Lowell and UMass-Boston.
In three seasons with UMass-Lowell of Hockey East, Buco registered 28 points (10-18-28) over 61 games played from 2011-2014 and helped the Riverhawks to a 2013 Frozen Four appearance in his sophomore season. Buco had career highs in games played (30) and points (14) during his freshman season in 2011-12 and averaged a career best 0.50 points per game during his junior season in 2013-14. Buco then transferred to UMass-Boston of ECAC-East, where he led all of Division III hockey with 32 assists and 1.19 assists-per-game, finished second nationwide with 48 points and third in points-per-game (1.78). Buco also set the UMass Boston program record with five game winning goals. The North Providence, RI native was named a CCM Second Team East Region All-American and was also a First Team All-ECAC East Conference honoree.
