THUNDER SIGN FOUR

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced that they have signed four players: defensemen Kyle Brodie and Mike Busillo and forwards Garrett Ladd and Roberts Lipsbergs, to standard player contracts for the 2015-16 season. The quartet marks the first signings in Adirondack Thunder franchise history.

Brodie, 24, made his professional debut last season with the Stockton Thunder after the conclusion of his final collegiate season with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. With the Thunder, Brodie collected three points (2-1-3) over four games played, including his first professional point, an assist, on April 4 against Ontario and his first professional goal three nights later against Bakersfield. Prior to turning professional, Brodie spent two seasons in Wisconsin, where he recorded 46 points (16-30-46) over 56 games played. Brodie also played two seasons of Division One Hockey at Bemidji State, where he skated in 16 games and collected three points (2-1-3).

Busillo, 24, made his debut last season with Stockton, as he skated in 15 games and collected an assist, scored on March 15 against Idaho. Busillo had previously skated with former Adirondack Flame defenseman Oleg Yevenko at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Busillo appeared in 75 games on the blueline for the Minutemen, where he amassed seven points (1-6-7), including a goal his senior year against the Maine Black Bears on October 31. Busillo’s +5 rating as a sophomore ranked tied for second on the team.

Ladd, 24, joined the Stockton Thunder at the end of last season, joining Brodie from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. The 5’10” winger appeared in four games and scored in his professional debut against Ontario on April 4. Ladd collected 91 points (37-54-91) in 85 games with the Pointers, including 42 points in his junior season, where he led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in goals (20), assists (22) and points (42) on route to being named WIAC Player of the Year. Like Brodie, Ladd had also previously spent two seasons at Division One Bemidji State, where he appeared in 10 games.

Lipsbergs, 20, made his professional debut last season with the Stockton Thunder. The Riga, Latvia native appeared in 15 games with the Thunder and collected two goals and an assist before he returned to the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League to complete his junior hockey career. Throughout his career with the Thunderbirds, Lipsbergs amassed 146 points (79-67-146) in 155 games played. During the 2014-15 season, Lipsbergs was over a point-per-game with 36 points (16-20-36) over 33 games played. The winger also amassed 18 points (6-12-18) over 22 career playoff games with Seattle. Lipsbergs has represented Latvia six times internationally, including at the 2014 IIHF World Championships.
