The Thunder’s 2015-16 campaign will begin on Friday, October 16, as the Thunder travel to First Arena in Elmira, NY to take on the Elmira Jackals. The Thunder will play on the road against 13 different teams during their inaugural season, including a season high eight visits to Manchester and six visits to Elmira. The Thunder will also travel to Brampton, Wheeling, Kalamazoo, Cincinnati, Toledo, Gwinnett, Greenville, Norfolk, Reading, South Carolina and Orlando.
The Thunder’s 2015-16 home schedule, which consists of 36 home games, will begin on Saturday, October 24, as the Thunder take on the Manchester Monarchs at the Glens Falls Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. The 2015-16 regular season will conclude with back-to-back games against Manchester, including the season finale at the Civic Center on Saturday, April 9.
The inaugural home schedule for the Thunder is highlighted by 11 Saturday home games and eight Friday home dates. The Thunder will also play four Sunday home games, six Tuesdays, five Wednesdays and two Thursdays. All home games will begin at 7:00 p.m., with the exception of the three Sunday games in Glens Falls, which will start at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, December 31, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The winter months of January (14 games) and February (13 games) will drive the Thunder’s schedule, with the team also playing 12 games in both December and March. The Thunder’s schedule also features six October games, nine November games and six April games. The home slate includes 22 of the 36 home games occurring during December, January and February, while late October into early November features the Thunder’s longest road trip of the season, six games, from October 30 through November 14. The early season road trip will span six different opponents in five different states. The Thunder will also play two additional four game road trips, one in February and one in March.
“The Days of Thunder will begin in 26 weeks and we’re excited about beginning new divisional rivalries with Manchester, Elmira, Norfolk and Reading,” Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek said. “And for our fans from the region to enjoy 13 new teams on the ice at the Glens Falls Civic Center will add to the flavor of the Thunder’s inaugural season.”
The Thunder’s home schedule is highlighted by the traditional New Year’s Eve game, featuring indoor fireworks, which will be played on Thursday, December 31, as the Thunder host the Reading Royals. The New Year’s Eve game has been a tradition in Glens Falls dating back to the Adirondack Red Wings, and was successfully presented this past season with the Adirondack Flames.
Two new scheduling features include a “School Day Game,” held on Wednesday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m. as the Thunder host the Norfolk Admirals. The “School Day Game” will offer elementary and middle school classrooms from local schools throughout the community the opportunity to spend a day in the area’s largest classroom setting, the Glens Falls Civic Center, as the Thunder offer an educational experience centered on hockey. The Thunder join 17 other teams between the AHL and ECHL which offered a school day game during the 2014-15 season.
The Thunder are also pleased to offer the “Lake Placid Experience”, on Sunday, March 13 against Reading at the historic Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. with a 7:00 p.m. start time. The Thunder moved the site of this game from the Glens Falls Civic Center to the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid to accommodate the 2016 NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships. The Thunder are preparing a “Lake Placid Experience” to complement their game against Reading, with details to be announced in the near future, including Whiteface skiing, transportation and a hotel package.
The Thunder’s in-game promotional schedule and programs will be announced at a later date. The Thunder will also play a home-and-home pre-season exhibition series against Manchester, with dates to be announced.
