Glens Falls, NY – For the second straight night, the Adirondack Flames fell to the Lake Erie Monsters, this on Saturday evening by a final score of 4-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Turner Elson had the lone goal for the Flames, who remain five points out of the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference. Doug Carr made 25 saves but took the defeat, his third of the season.
Lake Erie opened the scoring tonight as veteran defenseman Bruno Gervais buried a back door feed on the power play to make it 1-0 Monsters. Winger Tomas Vincour, who had two points in last evening’s game, fed a pass from the left hand point through the Adirondack defense to a streaking Gervais, who cashed in at the back post for the goal. Vincour and defenseman Chris Bigras assisted on the goal, which was just the third of the season for the Lake Erie captain.
Adirondack knotted the score midway through the second period, as Turner Elson drove the front of the net and banged home a loose puck. Defenseman Brett Kulak attempted a wrap around, but the puck hit off the side of the cage and deflected out in front, where Elson was able to bury it. Winger Cam Reid collected the secondary assist on the play, his first point with Adirondack this season, while the assist for Kulak gives him points in three straight games.
The Monsters regained their advantage late in the second period as Kenny Ryan snuck a shot from the right hand circle past Carr to make it 2-1. With Carr screened in front by Schumacher, Ryan’s effort from the right side got through the Adirondack netminder to make it a one-goal lead for the Monsters once again. The goal for Ryan was his second in as many nights against Adirondack and his 12th of the season.
The Monsters added an insurance marker early in the third period as Tomas Vincour finished off a nice feed from Troy Bourke to increase the Lake Erie advantage to 3-1. Bourke collected the puck off of an Adirondack turnover and hit Vincour on a 3-on-1 rush, which the Czech Republic native finished for the goal, his eighth of the season. Vincour now leads all skaters in the Lake Erie-Adirondack series this season with six points. The Monsters would seal the game on a late empty netter inside the final minute of play.
The Flames will be back at it again on Friday as they will travel to Syracuse to faceoff against the Crunch. Adirondack will return home on Saturday when they will play host to the Utica Comets for the final time this season.
