Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Flames could not solve the Rockford defensive effort, as they fell 4-0 to the IceHogs on Saturday evening at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Brad Thiessen made 25 saves, but dropped his third straight decision. Ryan Hartman was the offensive catalyst for the IceHogs, with three points (1-2-3), while defenseman Stephen Johns added two goals. Antti Raanta turned aside all 25 shots he faced as he earned the shutout.
For the second time in as many meetings, the IceHogs opened the scoring, as Stephen Johns beat Brad Thiessen short side to make it 1-0. Johns took a feed from defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk and skated down the left wing, where he beat Thiessen from a sharp angle. The goal, Johns’ second of the season, was also assisted by winger Ryan Hartman.
Rockford doubled its lead at the 16:24 mark of the second period as Hartman collected his first goal and second point of the evening, as he buried a rebound to Thiessen’s left to make it 2-0. After a scrum off of a faceoff, Cody Bass got the original shot away from the slot, which Thiessen turned aside, but Hartman was unmarked in front and banged home the rebound for his tenth goal of the season.
With less than 90 seconds to play in the middle stanza, the IceHogs made things worse for the Flames as they buried their third goal of the evening. Peter Regin made a nifty pass across the goalmouth to Matt Carey, who buried the one-timer on the back post to make it 3-0. Hartman collected the secondary assist on the play for his third point of the evening. The IceHogs added a shorthanded empty netter with 1:06 left in the game to secure their victory.
The Flames travel to Grand Rapids for a matchup with the Griffins tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m., before they return to the Glens Falls Civic Center for a tilt against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 25, with start time slated for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for the midweek contest.
