FLAMES DROP OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO BULLDOGS

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Flames fell in a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to their North Division rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs, on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

After many opportunities for the Flames, Bill Arnold finally squeezed the puck past Hamilton goaltender Joey MacDonald and scored the Flames’ game-tying goal with just 6:44 remaining in the third period. Arnold sniped the puck over MacDonald’s blocker hand for the goal, with Kenny Agostino credited for the lone assist. The goal was Arnold’s 11th of the season. He has now scored in two consecutive games, and has amassed three points, since returning from an injury.

The score remained knotted at 1-1 and the two teams headed to overtime, where they both skated scoreless during the opening minutes of overtime, but after they changed to 3-on-3 with 2:42 left in the extra session, Hamilton’s Eric Tangradi was able to take a pass from Sven Andrighetto and beat Thiessen, to give Hamilton the win.

It was a slow start for both Adirondack and Hamilton, with neither team able to find the back of the net during the first stanza. Adirondack led 10 to 5 in shots on net, and led throughout the game, as they finished with 40 shots on goal to Hamilton’s 33.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 3:46 into the second period, as Charles Hudon took a pass from Andrighetto on a 2-on-1 rush and buried it blocker side past Adirondack goalie Brad Thiessen. Thiessen ended the game with 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Flames had many chances during the second period, including 1:25 of 5-on-3 skating, but could not get anything going offensively. Defensively, the Flames were able to maintain on the penalty kill, killing all three of the Bulldogs’ power play opportunities, two of which came in the second period.

The Flames travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch Friday evening before they return to Glens Falls for a rematch from this past weekend against Toronto at the Civic Center, with start time slated for 7:00 p.m. The Flames conclude their weekend on Sunday, with a 5:00 p.m. faceoff against Binghamton Tickets are still available for Saturday’s contest.
